Why should I volunteer for Mat-Su 2024 Arctic Winter Games?

By volunteering at the Games, you will be part of the largest multi-sport and cultural event in Alaska since 2014! You will have the opportunity to form new connections, see first-hand the impact of the Games, and learn about Indigenous cultures from around the circumpolar north.

How do I volunteer with Mat-Su 2024 Arctic Winter Games?

To volunteer, please visit our click the green Sign Up button on our Volunteer page. From here, you can register for your GEMS.pro volunteer profile.

Do I need to complete a background check? 

Yes, Volunteers will be in environments that include youth and elders, and therefore will be required to complete a Background Check. A direct link will be sent to all volunteers from Sterling Volunteers upon registration. The background check is at no cost to the volunteer unless the volunteer would like to offset the cost.

Will I receive training before the event? 

Yes, before the Games, all volunteers are required to participate in two training sessions: 1. Orientation and 2. Role-Specific. You are required to complete each training once. Upcoming Training Sessions can be found here.

What types of roles are available?

If you indicate when registering that you would like to be considered for a committee or a committee chair or pre-games volunteers, our staff will contact you to complete an interest form to determine where you may fit in best. These volunteers have a higher level of commitment, including monthly meetings and a requirement to commit to the entire duration of the Games. You can view roles here

What do I receive as a volunteer?

1. A volunteer kit which includes a volunteer jacket, shirt and hat.

2. Orientation, SafeSport and Role-Specific Training

What are the minimum age requirements?

Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age by Mar 1, 2024. Volunteers in leadership roles must be at least 18 years of age. Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or legal guardian complete and sign a consent form. We will also have opportunities for Chickadee Volunteers, ages 5-11, to assist with Awards ceremonies and other fun events.

What is the time commitment required to volunteer?

Levels of commitment vary based on the role you are interested in:

1. Games-Times Volunteers agree to a minimum of 12 hours the week of the Games. 

2. Committee Members, Committee Chairs, and Pre-Games Volunteers have a larger commitment to planning - this means at least 8 hours a month leading up to the Games.

Where/When will I be volunteering?

When registering as a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to select your preference for:  

1. Area of interest: We will do our best to accommodate your preferences.

2. Availability: We will use this information to assign volunteer shifts.
